Tips for Playing
Online Poker
Playing
online is basically the same experience as playing in
a physical card room with a few minor exceptions.
Before choosing a site to play with, browse our
reviews. This will give you a good idea of which sites
will best fit your playing needs.
Once
you've chosen a site that offers the features you're
looking for you will in most cases be prompted to
download the software required for playing. If this is
the case simply select the "download now"
option from the site you've chosen and the prompts
will guide you through the process. For players who
would prefer not to download software there are Java
based games available that do not require a download.
There are several sites that offer this option, the
best example of a Java based site we've found is Poker
Room. For the most part Java based play will be less
fluid and offer worse graphics then a download so we
would highly recommend downloading if you are playing
to play a lot.
Once
you've installed the software you'll be asked to
register or sign up. If you are planning to only play
for fun you can get by with giving only basic
information. On the other hand if you have plans to
play for real be sure to give accurate detailed
information when registering. This is the information
that will be used to issue payouts so it is in your
best interest to give current honest information. If
you've chosen a recommended site they've proven to
value their customers and will not abuse your e mail
or personal information.
Once
you've registered you will be able to play for free or
be given the option to deposit and play for real. It
is always a good idea to play for free first no matter
your skill level. This gives you the chance to get the
feel for the game play and to get used to how the
software functions. Once you're comfortable with the
sites free games you can move to real money and focus
your energy on playing the game not where the
"bet" or "fold" functions are
located.
